Google has introduced new security features in Android 16 aimed at better protecting smartphones in theft scenarios. The update focuses on faster device locking and stronger protections when unauthorized movement is detected.
According to Google, Android 16 is able to automatically lock a device if it detects suspicious motion patterns commonly associated with phone theft. This protection can activate even when the device is offline, reducing the risk of unauthorized access to personal data.
The update also enhances remote security controls, allowing users to secure or erase their devices more quickly through Google’s account services. These improvements build on existing Android theft protection tools but significantly reduce the response window after a device is stolen.
Android 16 security features are expected to arrive first on Pixel devices, with other Android manufacturers adopting them later through their own updates.
